Harwick Homes honored with Three Silver Aurora Awards

Harwick Homes was recently recognized with three Silver Aurora Awards for two of its Naples residences. The Florida Home Builders Association bestowed honors to Harwick’s Mediterra and Caxambas Bay projects for Best Custom Home 6,000-8,000 Square Feet; the Mediterra project also received a Silver Aurora Award for Best Interior Detailing of a Home priced over $2 million.

The Aurora Awards program is affiliated with the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) and the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC), one of two regional trade shows recognized by and affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Aurora Awards are presented annually to outstanding builders, planners, architects, developers, designers, interior merchandisers and other housing-related professionals. Residential and commercial construction professionals actively involved in projects located in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and the Eastern Caribbean are eligible to participate.

Recipient of the Silver Aurora Award for Best Custom Home 6,000 to 8,000 square feet, the Caxambas Bay project is a private residence built on a two-acre site overlooking Marco Island’s Caxambas Bay. A comfortable yet sophisticated haven paying homage to the land’s beauty and cultural history, the home’s island tropical style is an open plan mixing classic Old Florida and coastal twists. Details including lap siding, tongue-and-groove driftwood ceilings, corner brackets and exposed rafter tails all emulate architectural features of Old Florida homes. Soft neutral hues with shades of aqua create serene coastal flair. A stately exterior, roof and driveway of dark charcoal ground the creamy white exterior, while turquoise Bahama shutters add playful accents. Lush landscaping and a meandering stone paver driveway tastefully complement the entry experience. Inside, transomed French doors, and full-size and clerestory windows maximize water views and natural light. Expansive great room windows overlook a private garden courtyard, while the guest room boasts breathtaking views of the bay and native flora. Architectural elements like the sweeping integrated stairway, stained driftwood ceiling beams and wall waterfall detail add warmth, while the great room’s net-like chandelier is a stunning focal point. With classic components and a vintage Florida vibe, this estate is a dream home both indoors and out.

The Mediterra project also earned a Silver Aurora Award for Best Custom Home 6,000-8,000 square feet. The custom estate has notable curb appeal, with garages on its right side and a large, natively landscaped, circular paved drive. The open, family-friendly floor plan includes traditional millwork, contemporary finishes, floors and intricate ceiling details. A formal parlor with stone fireplace provides views to the outdoor living area. The large kitchen includes two islands, custom stone breakfast table, dining table for 12, wood-carved bar, and Florida “mudroom.” Motorized pocket-sliding doors connect the family room to the outdoors. The pool has a center sunken fire pit with custom seating, multiple fire and water features, hot and cold spas, swim-up bar, and sun shelf. Spacious guest en-suites lead to a playroom and home theatre with built-in playhouse and arcade games. The master suite overlooks an outdoor shower with landscaping and a custom pergola.

The Mediterra project received a second Silver Aurora Award for Best Interior Detailing of a Home priced over $2,000,000. This home’s interior detailing is clean and elegant with straight bulkheads and header windows, and highlighted by intricate architectural millwork throughout. A 14-foot glass opening at the formal living room with high tray-vaulted ceilings offers poolscape views. The main hallway has aligned windows and art walls off the foyer, which wraps around the formal living room into the family area. Shiplap and board and paneling provide coastal formality. Light gray, white and dark stained cabinetry provides a transitional yet elegant style balanced by brass-gold on light fixtures and artwork. The entry and formal living room were raised to a two-story ceiling height to gradually escalate up in proportion to the upper story, creating proportion between the two stories. The attached garage provides plentiful attic space, using parallel pre-engineered trusses similar to conventional rafters, allowing room to incorporate a playhouse. Motorized pocket-sliding doors connect the family room and outdoors, an engineering challenge solved by a masterpiece of concrete and steel. Essential among the owner’s requests for this home were: family-friendliness yet formality, proportional first and second stories, and abundant storage. As a result, the well-detailed and thoughtfully distributed spaces are welcoming rather than intimidating.

Established in 1979, the Aurora Awards are presented each year to outstanding homebuilders, architects, developers, designer and interior merchandisers. This year’s competition drew nearly 200 entries in 54 categories. The entries are reviewed by a panel of six building industry leaders. Judges are selected from among the most creative and successful individuals within the homebuilding industry, and represent the many disciplines contributing to building and design, as well as geographic diversity.

Harwick Homes’ Silver Aurora Awards will be featured in the upcoming Pro Builder Magazine online.
